We often find ourselves driving through the Great Rift Valley because we are awesome live in Kenya. There are only about 5 main roads in Kenya, and if you travel as frequently as we do, you are bound to drive through the valley on your way from Nairobi to somewhere else.
It’s a stunning view, made even more exciting by the plethora of crazy Kenyan drivers who insist on passing other vehicles on this steep, cliff-side road. Another highlight is the selection of curio shops that are built precariously on the strip of land between the edge of the road and the edge of the cliff.
On our most recent trip, we finally stopped to take in the glory of the valley. Here are the highlights of a Great Rift Valley pit stop:

A view of the valley (please ignore the camera fluff that has besmirched this lovely photo).

Curio shops abound. My husband is in souvenir-shopping heaven.

This is THE place to buy your very own sheep-skin hat.

Obviously, a new Facebook photo is mandatory.

Doh!

Much better.
And in case you follow my husband’s love affair with souvenirs, you’ll be disappointed to note that he did not buy the sheep hat. “Too dirty,” he said. Good thing he put it on his head just to be sure.
What are your favorite road-side attractions?
