Here are my favorite articles from the past week:
The Best and Worst Places in the World to Be a Woman- When I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Vanuatu, I realized that it was a horrible place to be a woman. Unfortunately, many of the least developed countries in the world are tough places for women. This article and accompanying infographic compares the life expectancy, education levels, and other key measures for women in 165 different countries.
Fast Food Workers Share the Worst Food Items to Order- As a lover of fast food, this article was devastating in the best possible way. Actually the part about how one food worker witnessed a pile of Chicken McNuggets melt into a liquid was just plain devastating. Maybe now I will finally kick my habit.
Unclaimed Baggage: Where it Goes and How it Gets Resold- I haven’t lost any luggage for a while now (knock on wood), but I most certainly want to visit the Unclaimed Baggage Center that’s mentioned in the article.
10 Ways to Save on a Long-Distance Move- These are great tips, and I wish I had read this article last summer when we moved from Rhode Island to Georgia. My favorite tip is to pick the right way to move yourself– it may be cheaper to hire a company to move your stuff and then fly yourself to your new destination.
Plugging Your Financial Leaks- Managing my financial life is a big priority for me, and this article was a good reminder to check on the places where I might be unknowingly bleeding money. Re-evaluating my insurance is a good start– as someone who hasn’t been in a traffic accident for years, it may make sense to pay less for a higher deductible plan.
